Ipe (Brazilian Walnut, also called Ironwood or Lapacho) is the benchmark of premium tropical hardwood decking — a Janka 3,680 lbf hardwood with a Class A fire rating, a Class 1 (highest) rot- and decay-resistance rating, and a 40–75 year lifespan with no chemical treatment. Ipe S4S Eased Edge, kiln-dried. Naturally resistant to rot, mold, termites and wear, Ipe is the deck board architects and builders specify when nothing else will do. Priced by length.
Ipe (Brazilian Walnut, also called Ironwood or Lapacho) is the world's premier hardwood decking — a dense tropical hardwood from the genus Handroanthus prized for its extreme hardness, Class A fire rating, and unmatched natural resistance to rot, decay, mold and termites. Untreated Ipe decking routinely lasts 40 to 75 years, which is why it was chosen for the Atlantic City and Coney Island boardwalks and is specified by architects worldwide.

Working
Ipe is rated as moderately difficult to work with, as it blunts cutting edges. It finishes smoothly with the exception of roey portions in the wood.
Drying
Air dries rapidly, exhibiting only minor warping and checking.
Ipe can be found in some of the Lesser Antilles and throughout continental tropical America. The tree can typically be found in marsh forests or ridge tops and riverbanks.

I Love my Golden Balau deck
I was a little unsure which product I wanted to use on my new deck. But Jason and the team at Ghent helped guide me in the right direction. My deck turned out so beautiful and the clips used to install it allowed us to not have any screws showing. I am so happy with our decision. The best part is it requires little maintenance. This was as important to us along with being beautiful. I am so happy I shopped local and got an amazing product I can enjoy for years to come.

Happiness is a Red Balau Deck
Jason and his team were super helpful with advice on how to install my deck using the QuickClip hidden fasteners. We did have to screw and plug most of the end joints to keep the boards straight.

We have done numerous projects with Nova's ExoShield Walnut and this is my favorite! This table turned out beautifully. By using off-cuts from our dock, we were able to craft a gorgeous, custom Ipe table for our gazebo eating area. I chose to finish it with Walnut ExoShield to protect it from harsh Canadian winters and hot, bleaching summers. It was so simple to apply and I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome!" Thanks Kristi! We can hardly wait to join you at your lake house. Looks lovely.

We installed and finished our 2x12 and 2x6 Batu dock trim boards last October using ExoShield Walnut. After seven months, the material still looks perfect. Wow! This stuff really does last. All my previous experience has been with Penofin's Hardwood Formula. This finish blows it away. Thank you!
