About Doju
Full Doju profile →Doju is a close cousin to Ipe — denser-hitting on the hardness scale at 3,680 lbf, and one of the most stable hardwoods used outdoors, which makes it a sound choice close to the ground and in climates that swing. It has been traded in Europe for decades under its own name rather than as a substitute for anything else. The practical difference from Ipe is supply. Doju carries no CITES Appendix II listing, and the resource sits concentrated in a smaller region under long-standing supply arrangements, so availability is steadier and the paperwork simpler. Left alone it ages to a silver-grey; oiled, it keeps the olive-brown and yellowish-grey contrast it starts with. Those stability figures — radial shrinkage of 3.6% and tangential of 5.1% — come from Nova’s own laboratory testing in August 2025 of the specific Doju sub-species they supply, which runs tighter than the generic published numbers for the species.
