Hard Maple

Hard maple is the wood you reach for when something has to take a beating and stay bright — gym floors, butcher block, workbench tops, and hard-use cabinetry all lean on its density and pale, clean color. The white sapwood is the money grain, and the tight, even texture wears like iron.
All that hardness means it asks for sharp tooling and patience on the machine, and a conditioner before stain, but it turns and finishes to a flawless surface. We stock kiln-dried hard maple for flooring, tops, and cabinet work — ask about sap-select grades if a uniform white color is important to your build.
Appearance
Color. Near-white sapwood (the prized part) over light reddish-brown heart.
Grain. Usually straight, sometimes curly or bird’s-eye.
Texture. Fine, even texture.
Working & finishing
Hard and dense — it can burn on the saw and blunt edges, so sharp carbide and steady feed rates matter. Turns and finishes beautifully; can blotch under stain without a conditioner.
Drying. Dries slowly with moderate movement; stable once dry.
Durability
Non-durable; an interior wood.
