Garapa, also sold as Golden Teak, is the light-colored member of the tropical decking family — a reddish-yellow heartwood with whitish-yellow sapwood, straight grain and a fine to medium texture. At 1,700 lbf Janka and about 830 kg/m³ it is meaningfully softer and lighter than Ipe or Cumaru, and it is the easiest of the group to work.
Rated durable, Garapa earns its place on decks where the look matters as much as the wear: it is the tropical hardwood to reach for when a project wants a pale, even deck rather than a dark one. It also sees use in furniture, joinery, turnery and tool handles. Grown in Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Venezuela.
