Siberian Larch is a dense, slow-grown softwood from the Russian taiga, hard enough (Janka ≈1,100) to behave like a light hardwood on a deck while staying far easier to work and to buy than tropical species. Its tight growth rings and high resin content give it real resistance to rot and insect attack untreated, and it weathers to a soft silver-grey if left unfinished. A practical middle ground between pressure-treated pine and Ipe.
