8x10 Douglas Fir timber, free of heart center (FOHC), rough sawn full size in long lengths, 22 ft and up. Full sawn means full size: this 8x10 measures a full 8″ by 10″, not the 7.5″ a dressed timber gives you.
Cut primarily from old growth logs, and the vast majority grade out as Dense — at least six growth rings per inch. Many come from salvage logging: old growth trees already brought down by storms. They carry little to no sapwood, so they age to the uniform, rich tan-brown heartwood Douglas Fir is known for. Brashy second-growth fir is simply not the same timber.
Because they are free of the pith, FOHC timbers move far less than heart-center stock — markedly less warping, twisting, checking and splitting as they dry and settle. Ours air dry for several months before final surfacing, which holds colour and grain far better than kiln drying and keeps checking down.
Grade stamped on one end: MG Dense #1 & Better, graded by the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau (PLIB). Douglas Fir has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any wood species on the planet.
Priced and sold by the lineal foot, 22 ft minimum. Timbers ship LTL freight, or on Ghent's own truck inside 100 miles of Hudson, NY. Need a length or a section that isn't listed? Ask us — we cut to order.
